Wanted: Third Level Partner

I’m looking for a horse to partner with long-term, with the goal of progressing through Third Level dressage while enjoying the ride along the way. Temperament, rideability, and long-term partnership matter far more than breed or papers.

What I’m Looking For

• Temperament & Rideability: Safe, sane, and enjoyable to ride. Forward and responsive without being hot. Mentally steady and able to handle new environments (shows, clinics, travel).
• Training & Ability: Proven ability to compete through Third Level. Ideally has shown or schooled through 3rd with scores in the 60s or better. Comfortable gaits, especially an easy to sit trot and balanced, adjustable canter.
• Mindset: “Old soul” personality—willing, forgiving, and consistent. A horse that looks at the world rather than reacts to it.
• Ride Experience: Comfortable to sit, steady in the contact, light to the aids, and tolerant of a developing rider.
• Real-World Reliability: Good for vet, farrier, loading, and handling. Travels well and behaves the same away from home. Happy to hack out on a loose rein and enjoy a trail ride.
• Soundness: Serviceably sound with appropriate maintenance. I have an experienced care team and am realistic about upkeep.

Preferences (Flexible)

• Height: Ideally 15.3hh or taller
• Age: Generally 7–15, but flexible
• Gender: Prefer geldings, open to the right mare
• Breed: Open (Quarter Horse, Warmblood, Iberian, Draft Cross, OTTB, etc.)
• Registration: Not important — grade horses welcome
• Color: Not a priority, but I won’t say no to something flashy. Greys, chrome, buckskin, or palomino are always a bonus.

Not the Right Fit

• Horses requiring a “confident ride every day” to stay manageable
• Significant behavioral quirks (bolting, rearing, spinning, etc.)
• Horses that become anxious or inconsistent with light or irregular work
• Stable vices such as cribbing or unsafe tying behavior

What I Offer

• Private, horse-first home at Oak Stone Farm in Iowa (20 acres, quality turnout, safe fencing, excellent footing)
